About Us

Welcome to Solarmass LLC!
For operators of oilseed processing systems based at farms or feed mills, we’re the go-to source for equipment, information and service. Whether your system is already up and running or you’re just getting started, we can help.

Solarmass offers the best equipment in the industry. We are the Wisconsin representative of Springboard biodiesel products, including the BioPro line of automated biodiesel processors. Each model has been farm-tested and reflects field-proven knowledge that maximizes the efficiency of distributed-scale pressing systems.

We also offer the SpringPro drywash system, which provides a faster way to purify fuel than a water wash … without the emulsion or waste water concerns. Like Springboard’s automated biodiesel processors, SpringPro is a high-quality, innovative product designed for ease of use.

In addition to Springboard products, we represent Clipper seed cleaners, Komet oilseed presses, and CMC grain equipment and storage bins. All are state-of-the-art designs created by contemporary experts in their respective technologies.

For information about our products, or to discuss your unique challenges and how we can help, contact us today. Call (608) 333-2463, or e-mail us at solarmasssystems@gmail.com . We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Jamie Derr
President
Solarmass LLC

Solarmass LLC began on the Derr family farm, located outside Marshall, Wisconsin, near the capital city of Madison. We are a fourth-generation farm, proud of spending over 125 years on the same homestead. On family farm land, Solarmass operates 400 acres of no-till soybeans, corn, winter wheat and oilseed test plots.

The Derr family farm …

  • has employed conservation farming for over 50 years, with contour and terraced field layouts to minimize soil erosion;
  • strongly supports carbon-pollution reduction through no-till planting methods;
  • was the first Wisconsin farm to enroll in the Farmers Union Carbon Credit Program;
  • has achieved Tier 3 in the USDA’s Conservation Security Program — the highest rating in this program, which encourages environmentally friendly practices;
  • displaces 25% of its annual diesel-fuel consumption with biofuel produced from soybeans grown on the farm.

Derr, 38, farms with his dad on the family’s 400-acre crop operation near Marshall. Celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, the fourth generation farm produces soybeans, corn and winter wheat—a typical rotation for many farms in the area. But since 2002, Derr has added another product to the equation: biofuels. He has taken his time to learn more about small-scale biofuel production and begun incorporating the technology into his farming system.
